Reason #36

 A very interesting quote, certainly strikes a chord.  As you will understand by the end of this blog, sports can be used to exemplify, the very DISTINCTION in which John Dewey is referring to.

So, the first image is an example of a fact that conditions human activity.  It is an image of Beautifully cut grass, nothing but a pure form of possibility, and in many ways can be used to condition human beings. The second image depicts the DISTINCTION, because now, on that SAME field stands a COACH, who uses the field to condition his players, in various ways (wind sprints, up downs, cone drills, etc).  As the conditioning becomes a habit, and then a LIFESTYLE, it creates something real, which is what we call a TEAM.  Now, as the TEAM goes on to accomplish things, that field of grass BECOMES something that is conditioned BY human activity.  I totally understand if this is difficult to understand, Just keep reading.

What you see is a classic example of a company that is advertising, by giving GRASS human qualities, they are clearly marketing themselves as the FOOD, in which ALL GRASS needs in order to survive. Therefore, connecting with the sports industry, is something that gives them the platform to make their products visible.  Which is why they made it a point to say at the end of that commercial, that 

"Scotts is proud to be the official lawn care company of Major league baseball."

.....(ADVERTISEMENT).....

As you can SEE, Scotts has taken the concept further and decided to use Wrigley Field as a platform.

BECAUSE, Wrigley Field is an extremely popular venue, it has a lot of history, and sentimental value. Therefore the opportunity to be involved with the refurbishing of the facility, is something that anybody in the lawn care business would benefit tremendously from, as you go forward DO NOT FORGET, that first image, all of this started with a simple piece of grass.
